Magpupungko Rock Pools on Siargao Island
Magpupungko Rock Pools are a beautiful series of tide pools on the island of Siargao. These beautiful blue pools are filled with shockingly cool water and are a great place to refresh after a hot day of adventuring.
HOW TO GET TO MAGPUPUNGKO ROCK POOLS
Magpupunkgo Rock Pools is roughly a one hour drive from General Luna. If you’re headed that way make sure to check out TAYANGBAN CAVE POOL, as it is on the way. The drive up to the rock pools is absolutely gorgeous so be sure you stop and take photos along the way!
I highly recommend renting a motorbike as it is the most enjoyable method of transportation. If it is your first time to the Philippines, or you’re just looking for more advice on renting a motorbike, click HERE. In Siargao you can expect to pay anywhere from $6-10 USD depending on how long you are booking for. However, if you do not feel comfortable driving a motorbike, you can get a tour to Magpupungko Rock Pools, but this really isn’t necessary.
I have attached a map below to the exact location of Magpupungko Rock Pools.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In order to access the pools, you need to go at low tide, so keep this in mind when planning your day of adventure. Thomas and I tried to visit several times, just to try and avoid the crowds but there is no chance. Because the tides dictate the accessibility the crowds all come at the same time. I recommend going one hour before the tide is at its lowest, and pay attention when it starts to come back in.
The entry fee is 50 Pesos per person plus 25 Pesos if you drove a motorbike.
As you walk around to the tide pools, watch your step as there are random holes everywhere. I would also recommend wearing runners as the rocks are pretty sharp. Thomas and I hung out around the corner to avoid the crowds and had our own little pool to ourselves.
There is also a beautiful beach at Magpupungko Rock Pools so be sure to enjoy that!
WHERE TO STAY IN SIARGAO
If you’re headed to Siargao you are most likely going to base yourself in either General Luna or Pacifico. General Luna is where you will find the well-known spots like CLOUD 9. Thomas and I stayed here for 12 nights in total and absolutely loved it.
If you decide to stay in General Luna, I cant recommend KERMIT SIARGAO enough. They can set you up with literally everything you need. Surf trips out to jacking horse, island tours, accommodation, the best Italian food you’ve ever had, you name it, KERMIT SIARGAO has it.
You may also choose to stay in Pacifico, which is more chill and hardly any tourists. Pacifico also has some of the best waves on the island if you’re into surfing (advanced).
